The 2018 Annual National Meet will be a special evet that will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Hurst/Ols. The meet eill be centered in Lansing, the hometown of Oldsmobile and the Hurst/Olds. All of the production Hurst/Olds were built in Lansing at the main assembly plant. The '79 H/O was completed at the main plant while the rest of the Hurst/Olds were sent to different facilities to complete the conversions. The 1968-1972 ?/O.s were all converted in Lansing at the nearby Demmer facility leased by Hurst Performance.
R.E. Olds was a major influence
in the growth of the city and there are manu Olds related historic sites
in the Lansing area. The first Olds vehicle and the oldest U.S. vehicle
was built in Lansing in 1897. Tes, Olds was first to put automobiles into
commercial production and until 2004 when Oldsmobile production stopped,
they were the oldest manufacturer in the USA. This original vehicle is on
display at the R.E. Olds Museum. Also on display at the museum is the
Hurst "Hairy" Olds, on loan from the Hurst/Olds Club of America and nearly
80 other Lansing built vehicles. The R.E. Olds Museum is the only museum
deticated to preserving the history of Oldsmobile. When you register for
the show, you will recieve a self-driving tour of the various sites with
your confirmation letter. This way you can check out the sites at your own
pace either before or after the show.
